The Ministry of Education, Science, and Vocational Training has called the procedure for the participation of public education centers at the pre-University level in the Extremadura School Library Network (REBEX), for which it has allocated a total of 80,000 euros, according to the publication Official. Gazette of Extremadura (DOE) in its number 201. Likewise, the centers that are already part of this network will receive a direct allocation of 120,000 euros. The educational centers that rely on the Ministry of Education, Science, and Vocational Training in the second cycle of Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, Secondary Education, Special Education, Artistic Education, Adult Education, and Officials Language School, may request to participate in this call, may apply for participation in this call.
Not yet included in REBEX. Currently, there are a total of 386 members in this network. Selected educational centers will enjoy a financial allocation of a maximum of 4,000 euros to improve library resources, infrastructure, and equipment. These centers should consider and use the school library as a center of printed and digital resources for reading, information, and learning; as well as an open educational space, physically and virtually, to support training processes, development of key skills, promotion of reading, language practice and media and information literacy of students. Likewise, it must be an environment that helps to relieve the first or acquired unequal students, serves as a support for those who present a specific need for educational support, and offers initiatives to reduce the failure of academics.
At the beginning of the 2021/2022 academic year, the Ministry of Education and Employment presented the Strategic Plan for School Libraries and Reading (LAR), which has one of its main objectives to improve reading and reading comprehension among students and ensure that all centers Public educational institutions at the pre-University level have a school library with an adequate level of resources and ensure that a good proportion of teaching staff use it during the day- day teaching practice.
Likewise, it seeks to guarantee that all centers have a Plan of Reading, Writing, and Access to Information (PLEA), as well as the distribution of exceptional budgets dedicated to the improvement of libraries, aimed at educational centers that are not included in (REBEX) and to commit to the implementation of a work plan to integrate the library into teaching practice.
