The Minister of the Presidency, Interior and Social Dialogue, Abel Bautista, attended the farewell ceremony for the 612 soldiers who make up the Lebanon Brigade contingent (BRILIB XL) that traveled in the month of November to the south of the country with the mission . to guarantee Israel’s border security. Through this act, in which the members of BRILIB XL are accompanied by their families, the stage of preparation developed in the last six months has come to an end. The event that took place today at the headquarters of the ‘General Menacho’ Base in Bótoa (Badajoz) was led by Brigadier General Pablo Gómez Lera. The Minister praised the 612 soldiers who make up BRILIB XL for their “dedication and sacrifice in the name of peace and stability in the world”, and recalled that this contingent is “a true source of pride for Extremadura and Spain”. The contingent consists of 612 soldiers, of which 472 are members of the units that make up the “Extremadura” Brigade. The main task to be performed by the contingent of the UNIFIL Multinational Brigade East is the fulfillment of the mandate of the United Nations in accordance with resolutions 425 (1978), 426 (1978) and 1701 (2006), which was renewed by resolution 2695 in August 31, 2023, of the United Nations Security Council, which established as its main missions, monitoring the cessation of hostilities, supporting the Lebanese Armed Forces in their deployment in southern Lebanon and the Lebanese government in exercising its authority in that territory and, if applicable. , cooperate, without prejudice to said government, in the protection of civilians under imminent threat of physical violence. It will also be in charge of bringing to the area where it operates the various materials received from institutions and companies in Extremadura and Gipuzkoa that provide donations to improve the situation of the civilian population in southern Lebanon.
