Running back JaMycal Hasty’s ankle has healed after a month, and that’s probably what the 49ers’ fast attack needs to go in Sunday night’s game against Indianapolis.
Hasty activated from injured reserve on Saturday and figures to complement rookie starter Elijah Mitchell with a Trey sermon in reserve.
The 49ers may need more runners to cope with the rain conditions, possibly the wettest game in the eight-year history of Levi’s Stadium.
“I hope he goes all the way,” coach Kyle Shanahan said hurriedly on Friday. “He’s had a real good week, which you never know when he’s coming back from a high ankle. But he looked good on Monday and continued throughout (Friday). So, no worries.”
After 38 rushing yards (five carries) and 21 receiving yards (four catches), Hasty suffered an injury in a Week 2 victory in Philadelphia. A broken collarbone ended his rookie season in New Orleans last November.
other moves
Quarterback Nate Sudfeld, linebacker Tyrell Adams and tight end Tanner Hudson called in from the practice squad, who need to help fill in the injured Trey Lance, Marcel Harris and George Kittel, respectively. Sudfeld played the last game to support Lance, who is out on Sunday with a knee sprain and thus, Jimmy Garoppolo returns as the 49ers’ starting quarterback.
The 49ers did not bring in Darien Daniels, despite Friday’s decision outs from Jevon Kinlaw (knee) and Maurice Hurst (calf) on defensive tackles.
Nor did the 49ers list an additional offensive lineman with a left tackle Trent Williams (ankle, elbow) as a suspect.
After re-signing with the club three days earlier, linebacker Mychal Kendrick was released.
