49ers Studs and Duds: Garoppolo looks strong in win over Falcons as Kittel, Bossa dominate

SANTA CLARA – The Niners welcomed an inferior team to Levi’s Stadium on Sunday and did what a playoff team should do: They dominated them.

It wasn’t the beat-down of the full 60 minutes, but it was close enough. San Francisco’s 31–13 win was its best performance since Weeks 10 and 11, which re-established the Niners as a playoff team.

The Week 15 win against the Falcons punched the Niners’ ticket to the post season with three games to play.

Here’s a look at the Niners’ eighth win of the season:

In a truly dominating performance over the defensive line, Bossa had a sack and a forced fumble, which was recovered by the 49th. The stat sheet was not filled out, but the Falcons’ offensive line stood no chance against him. Bosa’s constant pressure on Matt Ryan left Atlanta’s offense in shambles.

Atalanta couldn’t devote enough players to stop Bossa, so they decided to hold on by design, hoping the referees wouldn’t flag them.

More often than not, they didn’t. Good job if you can get away with it.

And it was no coincidence that when Bossa came out to be assessed for an injury (he was cleared and came back) and the Niners put him on the bench for the third down in the second half, Atalanta pushed the ball a bit. Started.

Bossa is currently playing the best football of his youth career and is a viable Defensive Player of the Year candidate.

George Kittel

It wasn’t just catches or yards – it was the way the kittel required three, four, sometimes five Falcons players to have the ball in his hands.

If you want to talk about setting a tone for the game, Kittel did it on Sunday.

Kittel has averaged over 140 yards in his last three matches. He is also playing what is arguably the best football of his career at the right time.

Trent Williams

The left tackle from the Niners was a rip-off which Atlanta put in front of them on Sunday.

How is this guy eighth in Pro Bowl voting? Williams has the best tackle in the game right now. Get it together, people.

Deebo Samuel

Not only is he the only Niners running back who can reach outside, but he also re-emerged as a receiving threat in the game, trying to spark the Niners’ scoring drive to close the first half. Caught a 30-yard pass.

He followed that game with a 10-yard touchdown run from the backfield.

The crime of The Niners is at its best when Samuel is portrayed in a variety of ways. He was on full display on Sunday.

SANTA CLARA, CA – DECEMBER 19: San Francisco 49ers’ Jeff Wilson Jr. (22) scores a touchdown against Duran Harmon (21) of the Atlanta Falcons and Fabian Morrow (22) of the Atlanta Falcons in the third quarter at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara Did. , California, on Sunday, December 19, 2021. Jeff Wilson Jr.

He had his first touchdown of the season and his first 100-yard game of the season. Wilson showed more swiftness on Sunday than he had in the entire season.

SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA – DECEMBER 19: San Francisco 49ers start quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (10) throws against the Atlanta Falcons in the fourth quarter at Levi’s Stadium on Sunday, December 19, 2021 in Santa Clara, Calif. (Nhat V. Mayor/Bay Area Newsgroup)

Jimmy Garoppolo

Credit where it’s due: Garoppolo was strong on Sunday.

The Niners have a chance if they can push that quarterback.

We’ll see in the coming weeks how much of this was Garoppolo and how much of Sunday’s success was due to the Falcons’ flaws.

Now, I often call Garoppolo “one-reed Jimmy” a derogatory term, but a read on Sunday was what Garoppolo needed to win the game.

The majority of his throws were in the wide-open windows – what Kyle Shanahan called an extraordinary game. They were also on time and in progress. The Niners’ YAC had to eat and Garopolo fed them.

More importantly, Garoppolo didn’t have a turnover-worthy game.

San Francisco is now 7-0 when Garoppolo does not throw an interception. Keep it clean and win the Niners – it’s as simple as that.

Not one, but two fumbles on kickoff return? This is unacceptable, and if not for Atlanta’s incompetence in this game, it would have been a bigger issue for San Francisco.

It’s not enough of a Niners team to get away with bad special teams. They were on a Sunday because there is no team in the NFL as ineligible as the Falcons.
