5-month-old son of Nick Cannon Zen dies of cancer, TV presenter said

American TV presenter Nick Cannon on Tuesday made an emotional announcement that his youngest child had died at the age of 5 months.

Cannon, 41, shared the heartbreaking news in front of a shocked live audience on his The Nick Cannon Show, which was posted on YouTube.

The comedian told viewers that his son Zen, whom he shares with model partner Alyssa Scott, was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a form of brain cancer, just months after he was born.

Cannon and Scott welcomed Zen on June 23, making him Cannon’s seventh child.

“I didn’t even share it with anyone. Even the crew. Simply because there is so much going on in the world. I had a tough, very tough weekend, ”Cannon told viewers on the show.

“I lost my youngest son over the weekend to a condition called hydrocephalus, which is pretty much a malignant tumor of the midline of the brain — brain cancer,” he said.

According to the Mayo Clinic, hydrocephalus “is an accumulation of fluid in cavities (ventricles) deep within the brain. The excess fluid increases the size of the ventricles and puts pressure on the brain. ” It can affect anyone at any age, but it is more common in infants and adults aged 60 and over.

The TV presenter showed the public his “photo of the day,” a photo of Zen as he burst into tears, before detailing the tragic loss.

“I always noticed that he was coughing, and so I wanted to check it out,” Cannon said. “He had such interesting breathing and by the time he was 2 months old I noticed that he also had such a big head – a Cannon head. We didn’t think anything about it. But I wanted to take him to the doctor for his sinuses and breathing. We thought it was going to be a normal process. “

The presenter said that after the discovery of a fluid accumulation in Zen’s head, there was a malignant tumor, his son underwent brain surgery and a shunt was applied to drain excess fluid.

However, Cannon shared that things took a turn for the worse on Thanksgiving and that the Zen cancer process “accelerated” and the tumor began to grow much faster.

“After all, it was brain cancer and the tumor started growing much faster. So we knew the time was… ”he said, before emotion swept through him. “This weekend I made a serious effort to spend as much time with Zen as possible. We woke up on Sunday — I was supposed to spend the weekend with him — and I woke up on Sunday and thought, “I feel like I want to go into the water.” We have a chance to go to the ocean. “

Cannon said he and Scott watched the sunrise and sat on the beach, cradling their young son “for the last time.”

“It was a beautiful setting,” he explained. “I didn’t know how I was going to deal with today, but I just wanted to grieve with my family,” he told viewers, adding that this week’s show was “a special show dedicated to my beautiful son Zen.”
