Even though “College Gameday” was more than a week ago, UCLA is still reaping the benefits.
Napa Valley Prolific Prep’s 6-foot-10, 225-pound senior center Adam Bona committed to the UCLA men’s basketball team via his Instagram Monday morning. Bona is a Nigerian-born 5-star recruit who chose Kentucky, Kansas, Arizona State and the Bruins over Baylor.
Bona was on his official visit October 22–23, when “College Gameday”—the popular college football pre-game show—was on campus for UCLA’s Pac-12 clash against top-ranked Oregon. There were photos of broad shoulder center with UCLA coach Mick Cronin early Saturday. Bona talks about her journey with Champs Sharania of The Athletic.
“I watched the team practice and gave my best in practice,” Bona said. “What I saw in practice was really impressive. I really enjoyed my journey while there. There’s a winning mindset, and it’s going to help me a lot in developing my game for the pros.”

Cronin’s 2022 recruiting class is now ranked 9th best on 247Sports.com with Bona Commitment. Chatsworth Sierra Canyon Combo Guard Amari Bailey — the No. 1 recruit of the class — and Compass Prep (AZ) point guard Dylan Andrews are also committed to UCLA.
“I wasn’t promised anything, but I hope that with my work ethic and my abilities I believe I’m going to start over and impress the team a lot,” Bona said.
“This is a huge decision for me and my family. Me, my brothers and sisters, my mother, it is a big deal for us to come from Nigeria. And now I’ve got a chance to go to college at UCLA to play basketball.”
