600 bonus for the public sector: When the payment starts and who are the beneficiaries

The Peruvian government has announced the delivery of a bonus of S/600 for public sector workers, but there are doubts about the start date and the beneficiaries who will receive this subsidy. That is why in this short letter we will give the answers to these questions that revolve around the Bonus 600 soles that State workers will receive; plus other information on the subject.

The Minister of Economy and Finance (MEF), Alex Contreras announced that they will present a bill to Congress to grant an extraordinary bonus of 600 soles to public sector workers. This benefit will be given to a total of 562,000 public employees, as part of a collective bargaining agreement signed last June.

“As part of the collective agreement agreements signed in June is a bonus of S/600 for more than 562,000 public sector workers. At the bargaining table, Minister Alex Contreras promised that the payment will be made to July,” he said.

More than 582,000 public sector workers will benefit from a S/600 subsidy, as provided by the government. This bonus will be given to employees involved in the CAS regime, civil service law, special careers in the public prison and the diplomatic service of the Republic. In addition, workers from legislative decrees 276 and 728 will also be included.

To access this subsidy, it is a requirement that the employment relationship with the public sector workers was established on June 30, 2023, and that they must be registered in the Computer Application for the Centralized Registry of Payrolls and Resource Data Human Resources in the Public Sector (AIRSHP) or in Electronic Form (PDT PLAME).

However, it is important to note that certain groups of workers cannot benefit from this bonus. Those who hold managerial or trust positions, as well as those who meet the characteristics of a public official, do not get this subsidy. Also excluded are employees with specialized careers in the health and education sectors, who are currently negotiating their claim statements.

Currently, there is no link or exact date to know when this money will be given. Although the bonus was agreed two months ago, the representatives of the National Union of State Sector Unions are waiting for the quick approval of the parliament. Alex Contreras assured that they will speed up the process.

“There is coordination to get it approved quickly and the idea is that it can be delivered in September,” the minister said.

It is important to mention that this subsidy represents important economic support for public sector workers and helps alleviate their expenses and needs in these times of economic uncertainty.

Public sector workers are employees who work for the State and various government entities. In contrast to private sector workers, who perform their duties in companies and non-governmental organizations, public sector employees work directly for the government at various levels: national, regional or local.

The public sector covers a wide range of areas and services, including education, health, security, public administration, justice, armed forces, and others. Public sector workers are essential for the operation and provision of basic services to the population, as their work focuses on the welfare and development of society as a whole.

The nature of jobs in the public sector can vary. Some employees may be involved in political decision-making and public policy formulation, while others focus on program and project implementation and management. Public officials may also perform administrative and support roles to ensure the proper functioning of government institutions.

An important characteristic of public sector workers is that their wages and working conditions are often regulated by government laws and regulations. This means that your income and benefits, such as vacation days and health insurance, can be determined through public policies and labor negotiations, rather than depending directly on market supply and demand like in the private sector.

Public sector workers may also be subject to specific ethical and behavioral rules and regulations, as their work may have a significant impact on society and the use of public resources. Public employees are expected to act impartially, responsibly and transparently, and make decisions that benefit the general interest and not personal or particular interests.

The importance of the public sector lies in its fundamental role in providing essential services and in protecting and promoting the well-being of the population. From education and healthcare to security and justice, the public sector plays a vital role in the development and functioning of a just and fair society.

Despite their relevance, public sector workers also face challenges and criticism. Limited government budgets can lead to resource constraints and sometimes reduced jobs and benefits. In addition, bureaucracy and slow decision-making can be the subject of criticism and demands for greater efficiency and transparency in public administration.
