86 percent of Minnesota counties are requesting money for COVID-19 testing – here is the list

Following the extension of the deadlines and at the urging of state leaders, 86 percent of public schools have applied for a grant to cover the cost of testing for COVID-19 in schools.

At the end of September, less than half of the counties applied for government assistance to test students and staff for COVID-19. Government officials have extended the deadline for applications for assistance by two weeks, and an additional 168 counties have applied for assistance.

“Testing for COVID-19 remains an important strategy as we work to ensure that our students remain in their classrooms and classrooms while protecting the health and safety of all students, staff and families,” said Heather Mueller, State Education Commissioner … “I am so grateful to our school leaders who have again stood up to protect their school communities, especially as our youngest Minnesians are still not eligible for vaccinations.”

Overall, school districts, charters and tribal schools have requested nearly $ 50 million in funding for personnel and supplies to test students for COVID-19. The state’s ambitious testing program is funded with more than $ 8 billion received by the state from the US federal rescue plan.
