Dominican airline Arajet starts selling tickets for $55

Dominican Airlines Arajet has opened ticket prices starting from $55 one way and $149 round trip, with taxes included, to travel across North, Central, South America, and the Caribbean. By connecting Santo Domingo to new tourist and business opportunities, Arajet aims to establish the country as a key hub in travel across the Americas.

Tourism Minister David Collado and President of Arajet, Victor Pacheco, announced that this airline would become the rebirth of Dominican aviation. He envisioned that in five years, 7 million passengers would travel via Arajet and be an excellent milestone for air travel in the country.

“We committed to reducing prices, and from September we will unveil unprecedented prices in the country. Our aim is to make Las Américas International Airport the new Caribbean Air Hub, connecting the continent with world-class services and lower costs and more efficient aircraft,” Pacheco said at the launch event in Santo Domingo.

“The first flight is planned for September 15 to Mexico City, with Monterrey and Cancun also available. From that date, flights will also connect to Barranquilla, Cali, and Cartagena in Colombia; Quito and Guayaquil in Ecuador; Lima, Peru; Guatemala City, Guatemala; San Salvador, El Salvador; and destinations in the Caribbean, including Saint Martin, Aruba, and Curaçao.”

“The Ministry of Tourism is committed to diversifying tourism and expanding airspace at reasonable rates. Despite the Russo-Ukraine war, we’ve achieved record growth. The Dominican airline’s connections from Santo Domingo reflect confidence in the future and align with our SITCA vision. Our marketing and market development efforts will continue,” said Minister Collado.

Arajet will begin with more than 5,500 seats priced between $55 and $100, with round trips at $149 including taxes. Temporary promotions will follow before settling on regular pricing, always at the lowest market rates,” Álvaro De Leo, Arajet VP of Marketing, said.

In the announcement, Arajet stated that it will be expanding its route network starting from October. Among the destinations include Toronto and Montreal in Canada, Medellín and Bogotá in Colombia, San José in Costa Rica, and Kingston in Jamaica. This will see the airline offer services to a total of 20 destinations, spread across 12 countries within the first three months of its operation.

Arajet’s President stated they are working with the Dominican government to secure permits for U.S. flights, aiming to offer affordable fares and better service to the Dominican diaspora.

Arajet will start operations with five Boeing 737 MAX-800 aircraft, which boast the latest, eco-friendly design with 14% lower fuel consumption. This will reduce fuel, maintenance, and operational costs for the airline and its customers.
