The Iowa State Patrol says officers responded to a crash at 9:30 a.m. on westbound Interstate 80 near Minden.
Patrol says a truck driven by 42-year-old Ellen Hernandez Rodriguez West Palm BeachEntered the freeway and overturned.
Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the truck, 23-year-old Jose Armando Valdez of Miami, Florida, was taken by ambulance to CHI Mercy in Council Bluffs with undisclosed injuries.
It is mentioned in different media reports regarding this matter that the victims were not wearing seat belts.
The accident remains under investigation.
After this tragic incident, the family started a campaign on the platform GoFundMe To raise financial assistance which will be used for the funeral expenses. The publication asks for $10,000 and to date about $5,963 has been raised.
Added to this tragedy is the fact that the wife and son of the deceased are currently in Guyana, awaiting interview at the US Embassy, in order to obtain visas that allow them to enter the territory of this country.
“We sincerely ask that you can donate to help his wife in Guyana and his family in West Palm Beach with their commuting expenses. Thank you in advance and just remember that today it was Ellen who lost her life, but tomorrow it could be any one of us,” says a text on the platform written by Yunior Aguiar.
