The second game of the final of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League between Tiburones de la Guaira and Cardenales de Lara ended in a big fight, where Cuban players Yasiel Puig and Yuniesky Maya were the protagonists.
The matchup between the two teams was sparked by the celebration caused by the Kansas Royals player (now with the Sharks), Maikel García, who hit a home run to tie the score at the end of the game. Lara’s players felt angered by García’s actions and came off the bench to confront the opposing team.
According to Lisette Carnet, Cuban Puig’s agent, the slugger joined the fight to calm down when he received a punch from his compatriot Maya.
“Of course, of course. @YasielPuig, while he is trying to put out the fire and make peace—as we talked about in a few moments he will do when the circumstance comes in a game—the player from the other team comes to push him and obviously give Yasiel a blow for betrayal,” wrote the agent. in red social X.

Carnet added that Puig did not understand the reason for Maya’s attack because “my client said that they did not have a personal disagreement.”
“Here, you can see that he kicked Yasiel after he got hit, while the other one hit @YasielPuig, who fell through the railing. Everything seems to go straight to Puig, and my client says he doesn’t understand why,” he said.
Regarding this, Cuban player Henry Urrutia, a friend of the two players, pointed out in X that he also did not understand the reason for the fight between his compatriots in the final of the Venezuelan league.
“You can’t say without context, but for Maya and Yasiel to say something to each other to the point of hitting him, I’m sure it’s the heat of the game and adrenaline. I hope they talk later and solve this problem. I love them both,” she wrote.
