A five-story building in Badalona (Barcelona) collapsed this Tuesday. Currently, it is not known how many people are trapped inside the building, although no victims have been reported. As a preventive measure, the Generalitat Firefighters evacuated the adjacent buildings located in Canigó Street numbers 7 and 11 (the destroyed urbanization is located at number 9).
One of the evacuated buildings was damaged, and firefighters have sent a total of 13 crews to the site, where units from the Collapsed Structures Group (Grec), Operational Support Group (Gros), and the canine unit are trying to find possible trapped victims. Likewise, the Sistema d’Emergències Mèdiques (SEM) brought five units to the site, in addition to a team of psychologists.
At the moment, it is only known that the construction floor gave way, while the Civil Protection of the Generalitat activated the Procicat alert as a result of the event.
For its part, the Badalona City Council reported the event and added that the emergency services are working at the scene, with no casualties reported so far.
Location of building residents
As reported by Eduard Martínez, head of the Northern Metropolitan Emergency Region of the Fire Department, an attempt is currently being made to find all the people living in the building to confirm or reject that there are people trapped inside the building. In this sense, the psychologists deployed on the site treated five relatives of people who were not found.
