The first defense platforms in the Galician estuaries as well various environmental groups and organizations in the community, they organized a joint performance through the management of Administrations (central and regional) regarding the disposal of plastic pellets that affect many communities.

The event, to which “the entire Galician society that wants to protect the marine sector” is invited, will take place this Sunday, January 21, at 12:00 noon. in Alameda de Santiago de Compostela, where the delegation will begin their protest march to Praza do Obradoiro, where a common manifesto will be read.

Rogelio Santos, president of the Sea Defense Platform (Plademar) in Muros-Noia, explained to the readers of Industrias Pesqueras that “pellets are the last straw” and defended the need for this march to criticize the ” deficiencies in the policies of the Xunta to protect the Galician coast against the various environmental challenges that threaten it and that directly affect the future of the sector fishing and shellfish harvesting in the community,” he continued.

After this call, “no political party, nor ETA”

“In defense of our sea” is the motto of this mobilizationgenerated by the response of the Galician administration to the Toconao spill, but also against the background of the crisis that the Galician shellfish industry is going through, the anger of the sector over the spills from the San-Fix mine, in Lousame (A Coruña), or the problems arising from the management of reservoirs, etc.

“The production of shellfish is decreasing every year, and we have not seen a hard and strong response to all these issues,” said one of the organizers, Rogelio Santos, who was also recognized for his work in the dissemination in the social networks sector.

“The idea of calling a demonstration was already considered before the pellets flooded the Galician coast,” he said, and in the manifesto to end the concentration “there are also references to the central Administration,” thus. silencing those people.who saw the political background interested in this march.

Santos explained it this way on the social network to defend our maritime sector,” he said.

Without official support from the brothers

However, the demonstration called for this Sunday, January 21, will begin without the apparent support of the Galician Federation of Fishermen’s Confraternities, an entity that represents 63 fraternities in the community and that did not participate in the call. Nor have the provincial federations done so, although the warehouses, they assured, “can do it in their personal capacity.”

The president of Plademar believes that Mobilization of the brotherhoods means “some difficulties”, because there are “complex imbalances.” However, it publicly and openly invites all sectoral and civil organizations to participate in this march.

Although the organization denies having a political bent, several parties have already confirmed their presence on the call this Sunday, like BNG, PSOE and Sumar Galicia; while the Environmental Councilor of the Xunta de Galicia, Angeles Vazquezstated to the media that “”This demonstration is clearly political.”
