The president of FC BarcelonaJoan Laporta, appeared this Saturday at the 2023 Assembly of Committers to give an account of his management since his arrival at the Board of Directors in March 2021.
During the event, a significant moment occurred when a member stood up and took the microphone to make a comment in which he asked how the Catalan entity would pay the huge debt that the club had accumulated. At that time, Enric Masip, deputy of the Blaugrana presidency, tried to stop the partner’s intervention by asking to cut it. and made a scissor-like motion with his fingers.
The colleague in question, when he noticed the movement of the former handball player, addressed the senior official of Barcelona: “No, Masip, you can’t shut me up”.
In his speech, Laporta stated to the members present that his board saved the club from bankruptcy and improved it at all levels thanks to his survival plan, love for the club, and, not all, because of improvisation. “We are very satisfied with the titanic effort made at the economic level to present these figures and this budget. The strength of the shield helps a lot with this because there is love. Saving Barça at the sporting, economic, and institutional level is not improvised, it is an effort of many people committed to the club,” he said in his speech, which lasted about 45 minutes, at Auditori 1899.
“When we arrived, efforts were made to save the club from sinking. We found a debt, mostly short-term, of more than 1.3 billion euros. Any company can technically go bankrupt. We didn’t fold, we made brave decisions and saved the club from tragedy. And it is our role to make these bold decisions,” he added.
Laporta, in the middle of his mandate, took stock. “A lot of good work has been done to reverse the bad situation. That we find ourselves because of the legacy we received in March 2021. A very bad legacy. We applied a strategic plan aimed at finding the strength of the entity and it can be achieved with talent, effort, perseverance, imagination, courage, and courage,” he said.
