Gastronomy is one of the many jewels that Spain has, so when someone decides to live in another country, one of the big differences they find is the food. Videos of young Erasmus students showing products sent by their relatives that they cannot find or are too expensive in supermarkets in their countries of residence have gone viral on social networks.
TikToker Nury Calvo moved with his family to the United States almost two years ago, and since then he has been sharing with his followers what his daily life is like in this country. In one of his latest publications, he reveals how much it costs to make one of the most iconic Spanish recipes in the US: paella.
Before listing the price of each of the ingredients, calculate the cost they need to buy paella and paellero, where it is cooked. Nothing more and nothing less than “600 dollars.”
Then he started listing all the products he would use to cook the paella. The first ingredient it features is rice, which actually comes from Calasparra and costs $18 for two packets. This is not the first time that this product with the name of origin has been appreciated in the United States, as it has appeared on several occasions in ‘The Simpsons’.
Next, he continued to do the math: the chicken and beef were 30 dollars, the snow peas were 2.56, the soup per jar was “about three or four dollars,” considering that they used about 5, “about 20 dollars,” the sofrito was $10, the olive oil was $15, and finally, paprika and saffron were five dollars. In addition, it also adds beer, which increases the cost to $9.
According to his calculations, including the stove and the paella, the total will be 680 dollars; however, considering that they will be served later, if only the ingredients are counted, it will be about 80 dollars in exchange for 74 euros.
