This afternoon, an accident was reported at one of the PortAventura theme park attractions. As confirmed by Diari, the Sistema d’Emergències Mèdiques (SEM) is currently treating many people at the Tomahawk attraction.
In total, 14 injuries were recorded, two of which were in critical condition. These last two were transferred to the Bellvitge Hospital and the Joan XXIII Hospital. In addition, three other people are in a less serious condition and have been transferred to Santa Tecla Hospital (1) and Sant Joan Hospital in Reus.
Among the injured, all of them due to multiple traumas, there are children and adults.
As confirmed by the park itself, the cause of the incident was wind. A tree fell on top of many people on the roller coaster. The PortAventura organization activated all the necessary protocols, and a first aid team took care of the victims until the arrival of emergency services.
For its part, SEM has brought up to nine crew members to the scene, including a helicopter.
Mossos d’Esquadra troops also traveled to the park, which will take over the investigation of the accident.
The PortAventura organization assures that: «At PortAventura World, we are following the evolution of your situation with full readiness to offer the necessary help at this time and full support to families. “This is an event that has nothing to do with the operation and maintenance of our attractions, which meet the highest safety standards and are subject to strict daily checks.”
Because of this accident, Civil Protection activated the Prosecution Prealert.
