AFC South Finishing: Colts’ door open for Hilton, Jags have 4 targets for no. 1 choice

For the last time before the 2022 NFL draft, which begins on April 28, we take a look at what the Tennessee Titans’ AFC South opponents – the Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars and Indianapolis Colts – have in mind.

In Indianapolis, the Colts did not close the door on a reunion with TY Hilton. Even if the veteran returns, Indy needs more help from receiver, a position they can address very well in the upcoming draft.

The Jaguars once again own the No. 1 overall pick, and although general manager Trent Baalke says the team is still working on who he will pick, the options have apparently been reduced to four.

Down in Houston, the Texans are not expecting much (if any) trade action for their No. 3 overall pick, as general manager Nick Caserio recently admitted.

These are just three of the stories we cover for you this week. Here’s a look at these and six more in our latest AFC South summary.

Details of the $ 20 million two-year contract Gilmore signed with the Colts have been announced. The deal gives Indy an opportunity to emerge in 2023, with a $ 2 million death capitalization. The first-year limit hit is $ 7.5 million. Indy now has nearly $ 13.5 million in cap space after the move.

Hilton’s future with the Colts, a team that needs help from receiver, is murky, but general manager Chris Ballard is keeping the door open for his return.

“We will have a few more talks with TY (Hilton). I think you all know my feelings towards TY Hilton. I think he can still play. “I think he can still play productive football,” Ballard told the media on Friday.

With right-back Mark Glowinski leaving for the New York Giants, Pinter, a fifth-round pick from the Colts in 2020, will take over the post in 2022. Pinter achieved a solid overall PFF grade of 74.7 in 2021.

During what is usually a time for optimism before the draft, Jaguars Wire’s Zachary Huber believes there are three reasons to worry about the Jaguars’ 2022 NFL draft – and all of them have to do with GM Trent Baalke.

The contract the Jaguars gave Kirk certainly did not help other NFL teams with wide receivers to sign. Kirk went into more detail in an interview with CBS Sports recently.

“And yes, I was one of the first and people want to say I shook up the market. But in my opinion, things like this would happen regardless, but it definitely feels good to be able to, I think maybe that first step for the position and kind of lawyer for us to take over as one of the highest paid positions in the league. ”

According to Jacksonville’s general manager, the Jaguars have reduced their potential number 1 overall option to just four players, but he also notes that it is still a “work in progress” for Jacksonville.

Houston’s general manager does not believe there will be many teams interested in the Texans’ No. 3 overall pick, making it difficult to trade.

“The reality is probably that very few teams want to get to number 3, just to be honest,” Caserio said. “It’s okay. So probably choose at no. 3, and then no. 13, can we go up, can we go down? Over the next week or so, you are going to talk more with different teams about positioning, about what their philosophy is, about what their willingness is to move. ”

Like every other team, the Texans will focus their attention on free agents not drafted after the 2022 NFL draft, which Caserio talked about recently.

“You really want to try to establish a bit of a relationship or a relationship with the player so that the first time you reach out to the player is not to the draft or Saturday,” Caserio said. “Look, the reality is that there are only so many players that will be drafted, 200 and no matter how many slots there are, there are more players than that in the draft. “There are a number of players who will not be drafted and there will eventually be some good players who will not be drafted for whatever reason.”
