interactive and bilingual theatrical experience, Frontera Projectarrives in his hometown of Tijuana, after his tour of the United States, which ends at the end of the month.
Frontera Project –Directed by Ramon Verdugo and Jessica Bauman, and produced by Tijuana Has Teatro and New Feet Productions of the United States, it stars actors from Tijuana and San Diego who illustrate the daily perspective of being a border resident.
The work presents a mosaic of short stories that celebrate the richness and complexities of border life in the cities of Tijuana and San Diego, which in turn find an echo in other places and borders around the world. The piece includes music and sports to actively engage the public in a wider conversation about these issues.
The play is the product of a creative dialogue between actors in Mexico and the United States led by its directors, who began working with a group of actors from the region in 2019 to explore the natural possibilities of the project. Although it is presented mostly in English, its performances in Tijuana have retained its bilingual character but with a more balanced combination of Spanish and English.
“We are very pleased to share the work of this platform here in Tijuana, whose range of dynamics inspired this piece,” shares co-director Ramon Verdugo. “Furthermore, as Tijuana residents, it represents a small contribution to the daily events of this geography, celebrating the complexity of a subject that is seen in many artistic experiences.”
