Until March 1, Aitor Jauregui (Bilbao 1979) was the head of BlackRock in Spain. Now he is packing his bags with his wife and three children to take on a new professional and life challenge. His next destination is Miami since the largest fund manager in the world, which manages assets close to 10 billion dollars, has made it the head of business in Latin America.
You are asking. What is the idea of perfect happiness?
Answer Being in Menorca with my wife and three children and the island of Januensis.
Q. Can you reconcile?
R. I dedicate a lot of time to work because I am passionate about what I do, but I do it to win. Every time I accompany my children to school and when I am in Madrid, I have lunch and dinner with them. Of course, I dedicate my whole life to my family.
Q. What are the hobbies?
R. I love doing sports. At least three days a week we start the day doing sports. I need it. Run before everything else. I am also a big fan of music and gastronomy. I love trying restaurants. Another of my hobbies is reading, a variety of genres, whether financial, or novels and short stories. And it is an insurmountable decision to watch the Athletic Club match at home.
Q. Have you participated in every race?
R. I have done many marathons. I also run a marathon. It was 2011 in New York. Although I suffer, I really enjoy that kind of thing. Now I no longer consider such demanding challenges and focus on 10 kilometer intervals.
Q. What lessons did you learn to complete the legendary 42 kilometers and 195 meters?
R. It is true to run a marathon not only with the legs, but also with the head. You will appear as a clear witness, and therefore you have to prepare your body and mind well. You have no confidence. In New York I did the first part of the race very fast, because I allowed myself to be swept away by the atmosphere. In the end I suffered to complete the distance, but when you reach the finish line you have a special feeling.
Q. What group is usually present in the play album?
R. Among the classic queens please. If I have to stick with something more recent, I’d choose Imagine Dragons, which my oldest son found for me. I’m also a big fan of Spanish groups: Lori Meyeri plays with me very often.
Q. Can a man from Bilbao only be from an athletic background?
R. In Bilbao they don’t talk about football, only about athletics. It was an emotion passed on to me by my grandparents and parents, and I am now passing it on to my children. However, I am a big football fan and I like to see good Champions League matches even if my team doesn’t play them.
Q. Or was he going to leave again soon?
R. Certainly yes. I am very confident in the Copa del Rey this year. May 6 is already on my agenda, the last day will be played at Hispal. However, to reach the final, the first step is to beat a tough opponent in the semifinals like Osasuna.
Q. What restaurants have you recently discovered and would recommend?
R. In Madrid I really like La Tasquería, Lakasa or Sacha. Among the Japanese restaurants, I want to highlight Miki because it offers great value for money. 99 Sushi Bar, another of my Thai street food passions.
Q. What special memory do you have of the trip?
R. My wife and I both love to travel and it is a passion that I believe my children will inherit. Fiiius is 10 years old and there are eight twins. When we were little, we all traveled around Europe together. I remember with special affection the trip that five of us took in Thailand in 2019. It was a way for them to discover a completely different world.
Q. Due to your promotion at BlackRock, you and your family will be moving to the US. What are you most looking forward to finding in this country? What will you miss most about Spain?
R. Obviously, I miss my family the most. I also miss the BlackRock team in Spain because they are fantastic. There I hope to find a way to know the world differently. I really want to know a culture different from ours. We are very excited and ready to enjoy this new experience.
