After a long absence due to an investigation, Gregg Berhalter is back with the USA team and is expected to announce the tender for the friendlies against Uzbekistan and Oman next Wednesday, August 30th.
However, due to the injuries suffered by some of the returning footballers in the Stars and Stripes country’s national team, Berhalter will have to wait for a full team.
FOX analyst Doug McIntyre announced that Benjamin Cremaschi and Drake Callender would be some of the novelties in the North American box. The Miami goaltender would be selected due to injuries to Sean Johnson (broken hand), Zack Steffen (knee surgery), and Ethan Horvath’s low activity.
Other notable absences from the US team include center-back Cameron Carter Vickers, who will be out for at least two months, and forward Josh Sargent, who appears to have sustained a serious injury at Norwich City.
Finally, Tyler Adams, a new signing for Bournemouth in the Premier League, is close to returning to the pitch but could also be left out to fully recover at his new club.
Gio Reyna, the great unknown
One of the great unknowns is attacker Giovanni Reyna, who starred with the coach in one of the great novels that led to investigations into the coach of the North American team.
Reyna may miss the next US call-up, but that’s not because of Berhalter’s resentment; it’s because he doesn’t want to rush his return to court as he recovers from an injury.
However, Gio has not yet been able to make his debut at Borussia Dortmund in the current Bundesliga season, which makes Reyna’s return to the US national team even more difficult.
