Alicante, February 11, 2024. The mayor of Alicante, Luis Barcala, signed a decree this Sunday declaring official mourning in the city on Monday, February 12 due to the death of Miguel Valor Peidró, who was the first mayor in 2015 and Councilor of Culture in this City Council between 2007 and 2014.
In this way, the flag of the city will remain at half-mast this Monday on the balcony of the Town Hall and other municipal buildings as a sign of mourning and commemoration of the memory of another provincial deputy, who died at the age of 79.
The official mourning was declared “in recognition of his figure and show of respect from the people of Alicante”, according to the order signed by Barcala, who emphasized that Valor, “in his long career as a councilor of the City Council and deputy of the province. , added “the honor of being the mayor of all the people of Alicante.”

After learning of the death of the former mayor, Barcala expressed his pain at the loss of Miguel Valor, who he emphasized that “he has always been a wonderful person in every sense, a good partner and an example as a you’re a politician.”
“It is a source of pride for the people of Alicante that he is their Mayor and I, personally, will always be grateful for the love and respect he has shown me. From the different positions he has held throughout his life until he became the mayor of Alicante, he showed complete dedication to the service of others, promoting his work at the forefront of Culture. Today we have lost a great man, from the old school, where respect for others were obtained through hard work and continued through example. Rest in peace,” added the first mayor.
