In addition to denying kidnapping and raping the woman, the defendant accused Miami-Dade County police officers of allegedly torturing and forcing him to commit the crime.

Kohler was charged with nearly 45 sexual assaults in Miami-Dade and Broward counties last June, Sergeant Kami Floyd, from the sheriff’s office of the second of those districts, revealed at the time.

In 2020, Kohler was arrested in a sexual assault case and later identified as a suspect as the “pillow rapist”.

Detectives used DNA from Kohler’s son to link him to the rapes.

After DNA testing, authorities verified that he was a match with the suspect in 8 counts of rape.

The case began in 1984, when an apartment dweller in Pompano Beach, Florida, was raped at knife point by a man who broke into her apartment.

That breach was followed by dozens of similar sexual harassment complaints.

The detective in charge of the case explains that Robert Kohler used a pillow to cover his face in the rape.

The cold case unit made progress on the case after Sergeant Kami Floyd launched an investigation into thousands of sexual assault cases from the 1980s in 2019 and added many similar ones.

Miami-Dade County prosecutors announced Koehler’s arrest for a sex offense months later, and Floyd requested a sample of the suspect’s DNA, which led to a link to the Broward County cases.

Detectives believe Kohler entered homes in that county through open doors and attacked his victims while they were asleep.

According to authorities, Kohler threatened to kill the women or their family members before raping and robbing them.

This case was very popular at that time, but due to lack of evidence, it was forgotten till now.
