President Andres Manuel López Obrador is getting ready to deliver baton whoever is the winner or winners of the presidential nomination of the National Regeneration Movement (Morena), which is expected to be announced by the party this Wednesday from 5:00 p.m.
At the morning conference at the National Palace, López Obrador asked not to publicly announce where and when the relay handover will take place, as he first wants to be informed about who will be the standard-bearer of the Fourth Transformation elections in June 2024.
Everything went well, and I hope that today they will announce the result. I will find out, like you, who will be the coordinator, and then I will pass the baton to take over the leadership of the movement,” he argued.
“After the ceremony to announce the result is over, the leaders of the brunettes, the president of the party, the council, the members of the commission, the poll, the elections, and the representatives of the polling stations must inform us. After that, we will see how we can stock,” he hinted.
Morena, the party founded by López Obrador, will announce its presidential nominee this Wednesday after conducting an in-person poll of 12,500 citizens on the ruling party’s six candidates, including the former head of government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, and the former chancellor, Marcelo Ebrard.
The list is completed by the former interior minister, Adam Augusto Lopezthe former leader of the Morena senators, Ricardo Monreal, a licensed senator of the Green Party (PVEM), Manuel Velasco, and the Labor Party (PT) licensed MP, Gerardo Fernández Norona.
The Mexican President made it clear that he has not spoken to the Morena leaders nor to those directing the internal process.
“I’ve spoken when I’ve made my point, I’ve presented a document, and I’m very grateful because my recommendations have been taken into account, the governors have acted very respectfully, and the prospective coordinators of the transition movement have behaved very well; they had that what they wanted.”To seize our adversaries and their spokesmen, they will dissolve with debates, and then it goes on,” he said.
López Obrador spoke about what it means to hand over the baton to the 4T President’s flag bearer: “It’s a way of handing over a responsibility that I had to fulfill as a leader of a transformational movement.” The cane symbolizes that it is above all a symbol of the indigenous communities, which are the poorest in this country. “It is the handing over of this symbol to the one who should lead the transformation, who should create continuity for what is essential for us, to help the poor, to help the indigenous peoples, that makes us different,” he explained.
“The oligarchy doesn’t love the people; they don’t love the people; the oligarchs are classicists. You are racist; I am not inventing anything. We have a lot of love for the people and a lot of admiration, respect, and commitment for Mexico’s indigenous communities. I was educated in Indigenous communities, and I am what I am because I learned to work with Indigenous people from a very young age, like 23 or 25 years old, when I left school and was not yet qualified for work, he explained.
