On Monday, October 9, the 2023/2024 vaccination campaign against influenza and covid begins in Andalusia for people living in residential centers for the elderly and disability centers, the general population aged 85 and over, and the staff of health and socio-health centers, as well as residences and disability centers . Interns in health and socio-health centers, residence and disability centers, and the child population between 6 and 59 months (both inclusive) who attend scheduled appointments in the vaccine calendar will also receive the flu vaccine.
The Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs recommends that all target groups be vaccinated against influenza and covid to effectively and safely prevent serious infection from these viruses, avoiding hospitalization. In this way, the Ministry appreciates the use of responsibility and commitment shown by the Andalusians in the previous campaigns. In fact, the last campaign, 2022-2023, broke the record numbers, with almost two million doses given. Likewise, the Ministry also recognizes and appreciates the efforts of health professionals, especially the work of nurses, so that vaccines are administered in a timely manner.
For this campaign, the Junta de AndalucÃa obtained a 7.5% more flu doses than in 2022, representing a total of 2.2 million. This increase is mainly due to one of the most famous innovations of the campaign: the lowering of the starting age of influenza vaccination in adults, who will now begin to be vaccinated systematically from the age of 60, as vaccination against covid.
