Andrew Garfield told Variety that he improvised the line “I love you guys” in “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”
Garfield, who played Spider-Man in “The Amazing Spider-Man” films, and Tobey Maguire, who played Spider-Man in Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man” trilogy, reprise their roles in the latest Marvel film after much speculation .
After denying his role in the film for months, Garfield spoke to Variety about his return to “Spider-Man.”
“There’s a line I improvised in the movie, see [Maguire and Holland] And I tell them I love them,” Garfield said. “That was just me loving them.”
This line was part of the reason fans were concerned about Garfield’s performance in the film.
When asked about working with his fellow “Spider-Man” actors, Maguire and Holland, Garfield said: “I think the first time we were all in Suits together, it was hilarious because It’s just like three normal friends who were just actors hanging out. But still, you just become a fan and say, ‘Oh my god we’re all in suits together and we’re pointing!’
“There was talk about going to the bathroom and, you know, the padding around the package. We talked about what works for each of us. Tom was jealous because my suit has little zippers from which I can get my hands out very easily. To operate his phone, he had to use his nose because he couldn’t reach his hands. We’d also have a deeper conversation, and about his experiences with the character will talk.”
Garfield also spoke about how “Spider-Man: No Way Home” brought him closer to the character.
Garfield said, “I’m really, really grateful that I had the opportunity to tie up some loose ends for Peter I was playing.” It was joyful, and there was a sense of closure for me. I had so many unanswered questions for Peter, where we left it. I had to step back and get some treatment for him.
“I will say the image of my catch [Zendaya’s] MJ – He was really handsome and it totally sold me.”
“Spider-Man: No Way Home” is in theaters now.
