The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahuannounced this Wednesday the formation of an emergency government with the Benny Gantza member of the opposition, former Minister of Defense and former Chief of the Army Staff, to face the war with the Palestinian militias in Gaza.
Netanyahu warned that “every member of Hamas is a dead man”, while stressing that “we reject any other consideration for the citizens of Israel.”
“We will completely destroy and kill Hamas, ISIS in Gaza. They will disappear from the Earth, they will cease to exist, we will not accept that children and children of Israel are killed and everything continues as usual, “said, for his part, the Minister of Defence, Yoava Gallant, who is also included in the new cabinet.
He also stated that Israeli areas surrounding the Strip have been secured and now his troops are “concentrating on the offensive.”
For his part, Ganzt commented that “the State of Israel is facing one of the most difficult moments”, with “families killed and kidnapped by a merciless enemy that must be eliminated.”
“The fact that we are here united, together, is a very clear message to the enemy, and more importantly, it is a message to all the citizens of Israel,” he added, while indicating that ” here we are” Together, we are all motivated.”
Netanyahu and Gantz have finished weaving the agreement to a long meeting where a joint statement emerged, outlining an unprecedented alliance with Israel with the sole purpose of fighting Hamas.
In fact, the parties committed to shall not promote any legislative project which has nothing to do with the conflict.
Both are former government colleagues
The agreement shows that Gantz, together with the former Minister of Justice Gideon Saar; another former chief of the Army General Staff, Gadi Eisenkotand two other deputies will join the political and security cabinet of the Government for the duration of the war.
The five are members of the center-right National Unity party, led by Gantz. On the other hand, the war management cabinet is made up of Netanyahu, Gantz and the current Minister of Defense, Yoav Gallant.
In addition, a place in the war management cabinet is reserved for Yair Lapid, with Gantz as the two most powerful opposition members of Netanyahu’s coalition in Parliament. The negotiations for the inclusion of Lapid have not been completed and the local media explained that this is due to disagreement with far-right partners in the Netanyahu coalition.
Gantz had been a partner in Netanyahu’s government before, but his internal disputes and his refusal to abide by the rotation agreement between the two led to the coalition. Since then, Gantz has remained on the opposite side of the current president and has refused several times to join his Government.
Amidst the controversy caused by the judicial reform initiated by the Netanyahu government, Gantz established himself as the political figure who got the most popular support in almost all surveys.
Municipal elections are suspended indefinitely
This week Netanyahu won the support of his coalition partners, far-right and ultra-Orthodox parties, to integrate Gantz into the national emergency government.
At the same time, the Israeli Ministry of the Interior announced this Wednesday that it will indefinitely postpone the municipal elections scheduled for October 31, due to the war that began last Saturday with the Palestinian militias in Gaza.
The last time an election was delayed in Israel was the 1973 Yom Kippur War.
