The interesting trailer for The Bikeriders, directed by Jeff Nichols, a filmmaker who caused quite a stir with Take Shelter (2011), Mud (2012), or Loving (2016), has just been released. Now he has announced that he submitted an idea for Aquaman, but it was rejected. This was before we briefly saw Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry in Zack Snyder’s Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016).
“I still have scenes from Aquaman in mind that would have been good. They would have been very different from the film that was made. It was never doable. I liked the older Aquaman when he still had a harpoon for a hand. He was a fallen king, and his son was dead. I was in mourning. Obviously, from this brief presentation, it can be inferred that several hundred dollars worth of tickets would have been sold. It’s fun to explore these things, but now we have a lot of these films. There are many stories in the world. It is good to take the time to count others,”. said Jeff Nichols in a recent interview with HSC.
Were you about to shoot your film?
In 2016, Jeff Nichols said that in a franchise this big, he didn’t have the freedom to shape his film the way he wanted. “In the DC Universe, so many pieces had been activated and so many decisions had already been made that it felt bigger and bigger, and Warner Bros. agreed that it was me trying to jump on a bandwagon. I’m not good at that. I’m more of a simple guy.”
Now Aquaman will have a sequel. James Wan is preparing a new adventure about the king of Atlantis, which will again be played by Jason Momoa.
Additionally, he is joined by Patrick Wilson as King Orm, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as David Kane/Black Manta, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus, Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Jani Zhao as Stingray, and Amber Heard as Mera.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will be released on December 22, 2023.
