Arnold Schwarzenegger Has Been Doing This Training Routine For Decades

This is what you do every day when you wake up and keeps you fit even at the age of 75.

Arnold Schwarzenegger has been surpassing his fitness goals since the mid-1970s, rising from the top of podiums at elite bodybuilding competitions and appearing in thousands of Hollywood movies. And while that success has been the result of a wide range of factors, Arnie credits at least some of his focus and drive for sticking to the same daily morning routine for so long, and still at 75.

“Every morning, I make coffee and feed the dogs, Whiskey and Lulu,” he wrote in a recent issue of his newsletter, where we also read his goals for going into the new year. “When I’m drinking my coffee, I check my emails and read some newspapers. And as soon as I finish my coffee, I go to the gym and work out, and then have breakfast. This day It’s time for the first time. Allow me to think.”

“That’s how it’s been my whole life,” he continued. “I was first inspired by Reg Park, the former Mr. Universe who became Hercules in the movies. But having that spark of inspiration didn’t lead to my success. It was my routine.”

The seven-time Mr. Olympia winner said that it can take real effort at first to build this kind of repetitive consistency into your daily life, and that you ideally want to get to a point where it becomes automatic. Let it happen and you do it without thinking. “You need discipline until your routine is so automatic you never think about it,” he says. “Because as soon as you start thinking, your mind will fight with itself.”
