ASOBAL Handball League: Benidorm limits on sustainability after crushing Huesca

TM Benidorm ended its losing streak and has now resorted to mathematical stability after crushing Bada Huesca (33-24) in a match that only had poise and emotion in the first 15 minutes. Saves by the local goalkeeper, Roberto Rodríguez, and frequent defensive changes by Fernando Latorre’s team decimated Huesca’s team, which found no offensive or defensive argument to rejoin the game in the second half.

After an explosive start by both teams with goals exchanged, Benidorm set the pace of the game with a corral attack and a changing defence, although the goalkeeper was the big difference. With the score at 9–7, and after two goals from Nikevic on the counter-attack, Huesca coach José Nolasco halted the game to try to stop his opponent’s escape, but found it impossible.

Again, the coach of the Huesca team called a timeout soon after with the score 14–8 to stop the local avalanche. Huesca improved in defense and seemed to have a grip on the game, but two counter-attack goals in the final minute extended Benidorm’s lead to six goals before the break (16–10). A brilliant start to the second half by Latorre’s team, aided by errors from the visitors, certainly turned the game into momentum after a 3–0 run.

Huesca, softer in defense and goalkeeping, could only resist with shots from Cordes and goals from Benitez, despite the departure of Tercariol, although it was not enough to stand out. Lignieres, Edu Calle, Iván Martínez and Serrano, a hammer on Pivot, in addition to Roberto’s save, increased the margin, reaching 12 points (30–18). With the game resolved, Huesca’s team scored a handful of points, but could not stop the party of Benidorm’s best this year.
