Associated Press source: Brown works QB while waiting for Watson to rule

CLEVELAND ( Associated Press) — While they await a verdict on Deshaan Watson, the Cleveland Browns are working on quarterback this week to make sure they are ready for training camp, a person familiar with the team’s plans said. told The Associated Press on Thursday.

According to the person who spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity, the Browns want to open camp with four quarterbacks next week because the team has not disclosed the tryouts.

AJ McCarron and Josh Rosen, who have previously been on Cleveland’s radar, are among the people watching the quarterback, the person said.

ESPN was the first to report on Cleveland’s QB workout.

Watson is facing a possible NFL suspension after being charged by two dozen female massage therapists of sexual misconduct during the season while three-time pro baller played for the Houston Texans.

The league’s disciplinary officer, former federal judge Sue L. Robinson, is deciding whether Watson, who did business with Brown in March, violated a personal conduct policy.

If Watson is suspended, the Browns intend to go with the experienced Jacobi Brissette as their starter. Brissette has started 37 games with New England, Indianapolis and Miami during his pro career. He signed as a free agent a day after Cleveland tempted Watson to waive his no-trade clause with a five-year, $230 million contract that is fully guaranteed.

Josh Dobbs is also on Cleveland’s roster, but the 27-year-old has never started an NFL game and the Browns are looking to bring in another veteran in case Watson is out for several games.

McCarron, 31, nearly came to Cleveland in a 2017 trade from Cincinnati, but the deal was canceled when the Browns failed to file proper paperwork with the league in time. McCarron has also played for Oakland and Houston.

Rosen was one of several top college quarterbacks that the Browns considered drafting with the first overall pick in 2018 before choosing Baker Mayfield. Cleveland tackles Mayfield to Carolina After agreeing earlier this month to take $10 million of his salary for 2022.

Rosen went 3-13 at the start for Arizona and Miami. He was with Atlanta last season and appeared in four matches.
