Warner Bros. has released a new trailer to preview the highly anticipated Barbie movie with Margot Robbie (Babylon) in the title role. The latest footage plays conflict in Barbieland with Barbie, starting to feel minor discomforts like cold showers and flat feet.
Barbie must travel to the real world to learn the truth about the universe. However, she doesn’t set out alone as Ken (The Gray Man’s Ryan Gosling) accompanies her best friend on the journey. On arrival, the two struggle to adjust to the real world, which is the opposite of the idyllic Barbieland. To make matters worse, the CEO of the toy company (Will Ferrell’s Ghost) calls the dolls’ presence in the real world “catastrophic” and fights to get Barbie and Ken back home.
Robbie and Gosling aren’t the only actors playing Barbie and Ken. There will be several variations of each character. The cast of the play includes a different version of Barbie, Kate McKinnon (Saturday Live), Issa Rae (Insecure), Emma Mackey (Sex Education), Sharon Rooney (Dumbo), Alexandra Shipp (tick, tick…BOOM), Dua Lipa (Argyle), Hari Nef (Clear), Nicola Coughlan (Bridgerton), Ana Cruz Kayne (Maeminarum) and Ritu Arya (The Umbrella Academy). Lipa will also appear on the soundtrack of the film, Barbie: The Album, along with her single, Dance of the Night, which will be released on May 26.
Along with Gosling, Simu Liu (Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Rings), Scott Evans (Grace and Frankie), Ncuti Gatwa (Sex Education), John Cena (Fast X) and Kingsley Ben-Adir (One Night in Miami) Star in variations of Ken.
Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird) directs Barbie’s first live-action film from a script she co-wrote with Noah Baumbach (A Wedding Story). Robbie will produce with her husband Tom Ackerley (Boston Strangler), along with David Heyman (White Noise) and Robbie Brenner (Dallas Buyers Club).
Barbie is scheduled to be released in theaters on June 21.
