Barcelona almost have a new anointing in La Liga on their hands, but this Wednesday it certainly missed a great opportunity to start materializing as it lost 2-1 in its trip to Rayo Vallecano. Álvaro and Fran García put the locals ahead, while Robert Lewandowski chipped in at the end.
Looks like this turned out to be a bit harder for Lightning Cules to solve, as there are now four games in which they can’t beat Valecas’ game. Right from the start, Andoni Irola’s men came out in possession and took the lead in the 19th minute from Álvaro García’s cross shot.
Barcelona suffered another blow on 53 minutes without response, when Franck García recovered a through ball from Frenkie de Jong to go alone and deflect Ter Stegen. Lewandowski’s offside as in the 83rd gave Xavi’s men some hope of getting away, but he was left there.
Now Barcelona had 76 points over Real Madrid’s 65.
