Bayern 6-1. Defeated

BERLIN ( Associated Press) – Sadio Mane scored on his German debut as Bayern Munich beat Eintracht Frankfurt 6-1 at the start of the Bundesliga on Friday.

Jamal Musiala scored two goals, while Joshua Kimmich, Benjamin Pavard and Serge Gnabry also scored. Bayern did not miss Robert Lewandowski, who was transferred to Barcelona.

“We have to find new ways to score,” Musiala said of Lewandowski’s departure, “because he always scored 40 goals in a season.”

Bayern’s massive dominance over the team that won the Europa League last season shows why they are strong favorites to extend their record to an 11th consecutive title.

The Bavarian powerhouse took 17 shots on goal in the first half alone, when the away side were able to overlook a comical omission from Thomas Müller.

Both the opening ceremony and pop singer Caroline Niemczyk’s soulful rendition of the German anthem were whistled by domestic fans, who marked the occasion in their own way, setting off forbidden pyrotechnics behind a target.

This sent a huge cloud of smoke over the Frankfurt goal and may have helped the visitors even after 5 minutes, when Kimmich scored through the haze with a free kick from the post. Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp, anticipating a cross, was slow to react.

Pavard made it 2-0 after 11 minutes, on a rebound after a shot from Mueller was blocked.

“With two goals, the game took a certain direction,” said Frankfurt coach Oliver Glasner. “We were so mad, we wanted too much. And when you give as much space to their attack as you can, you see what the outcome is.”

Bayern had to wait until the 29th minute for Mane to put Gnabry’s third header on the cross. This was the Senegalese striker’s first goal in the Bundesliga since his transfer from Liverpool.

Müller set up Musiyla in 35th and Gnabry finished fifth before the break.

Only the intermission gave a break to the troubled local team.

Glasner responded with three changes at halftime and was rewarded with a better team performance in the second half.

New signing Colo Muni forced an error from confident goalkeeper Manuel Neuer to score on his league debut in 64th.

But the visitors were far from scared. Musiala displayed some fine footwork before scoring his second goal in the 83rd.
