New Delhi, Online Desk. England all-rounder Ben Stokes has announced his retirement from ODI cricket. He will say goodbye to this format after playing the first match of the three-match series against South Africa on Tuesday. He took this decision just a day after the defeat in the ODI series against India on Sunday. On the announcement of retirement, Indian legend Virat Kohli gave a special message while replying to him.
On the afternoon of Monday 18 July, Stokes announced on social media the end of his ODI career. He shared the information about his retirement from just one format, saying that the game will continue in Tests and T20s. Stokes, who played 104 ODIs, has scored 2919 runs for England. During this he played 3 centuries and 21 half-centuries.

His biggest innings in this format was an unbeaten 102 against Australia in Birmingham in 2017. Talking about bowling, he has 74 wickets in ODIs and his best performance of 5 wickets for 61 runs.

On Instagram, Kohli extended his best wishes to Stokes on his retirement from ODIs. He wrote, You were the best opponent of all the players I played against. I have great respect for you.
Stokes made world champion
Stokes played an unbeaten innings of 84 runs in the final of the ICC ODI World Cup 2019 against New Zealand. England had a target of 241 runs to win and 8 wickets fell for 227 runs. Stokes held on to one end and brought the team to level. The match was tied and the winner was decided after a thrilling Super Over.
