Why did Stokes retire?
Ben Stokes said- I will play my last ODI match for England in Durham on Tuesday. I have decided to retire from ODIs. It was a very difficult decision for me. I have enjoyed every minute playing for England. It’s been an incredible journey.”

He further said that he can no longer give his 100 per cent in ODIs and the rest of his teammates are no less deserving of a place in the team. Stokes wrote – It is no longer possible for me to play all three formats. Especially given the schedule and the kind of performance that is expected of us, it is very tiring. My body is letting me down, I even feel like I’m replacing another player. It’s time for another cricketer to move on to cricket and make some great memories like the ones I’ve made in the last 11 years.

Stokes said- Now I will focus all my attention on Test cricket. I think with this decision, I will be able to play the T20 format with full devotion. I wish Jos Buttler, Matthew Pot, all the players and the support staff all the very best of success. We have made a lot of progress in ODI cricket in the last seven years and now the future looks bright.

Stokes said- I have played 104 matches so far and all I like very much. I have one more match to play and it’s great to play my last match at my home ground, Durham. As always, the fans of England were with me every time and will continue to be so. You are the best fans in the world. I hope we win on Tuesday and start the ODI series against South Africa in great style.
