Berrettini will defend the title in the final of the Queen’s Club

LONDON ( Associated Press) – Unfazed by a rain delay, Matteo Berrettini beat Botic van de Zandschulp to reach the Queen’s Club final for the second year in a row on Saturday and cleverly responded to his proposal of marriage.

The defending champion defeated Van de Zandschulp 6–4, 6–3 to extend his winning streak to eight games.

During the on-court interview, someone from the stand proposed to him.

“Let me think about it,” said Berrettini, smiling.

Berrettini have won 19 of their last 20 matches on grass. Novak Djokovic got the only defeat in the final of Wimbledon last year. Past.

He will face Serbian Filip Krajinovic in the final on Sunday, who defeated Marin Cilic of Croatia 6-3, 6-3. Krajinovic had not won a match on grass until this week.

“It’s an amazing feeling,” he said in an on-court interview. “I can’t believe I’m in the final. They had never won a match on grass before this tournament. (I thought) I’ll win a match or two here.

Berrettini dropped just four points on his first serve and was the winner of 24 against nine unforced errors. He said it was his best game of the week.

“Today’s match was really tough, the rain stopped us,” he said of the interruption in the second set.

Berrettini broke the Dutchman’s serve and resumed the match to take a 4–2 lead.

“We have to adjust to everything,” he said. “We have to be prepared to stop and then come back. I was ready when I had to be ready.”
