Television personality and rapper Big Zoo celebrates his “humble beginnings” and “working class people” after winning the BAFTA TV Award for Feature.
ig Zoo – whose real name is Zuhair Hasan – won two awards during the 75th BAFTA TV Awards ceremony, followed by the Big Eats of his show Big Zoo, also received the gong for entertainment performance.
After receiving the Feature Award, 27-year-old Big Zoo paid tribute to the legacy of his mother and his school friends and fellow presenters Haider and Tubsi.
He said: “She came to this country four months pregnant from Sierra Leone during the rebel war.
“Haider’s family comes from Kurdistan, which is not a recognized state.
“Tubsi’s family is from Iraq and Iran, they were in a war when he was born.
“Man comes from humble beginnings.”
Grimm is seen cooking the artist, before chatting with them while cooking for the famous artists in the Big Zoo’s Big Eats.
While on stage, the Big Zoo said: “Representation is so important. Growing up, there weren’t many chefs or people who looked like me.

“And nowadays, young people are watching us tingling us, do you know what, if these guys can win the BAFTAs, of course we can.”
The Big Zoo battled a selection of industry stalwarts to take home the award for entertainment performance, with Alison Hammond, Graham Norton, Joe Lycett, Michael McIntyre and Sean Locke all receiving nominations in the category.
Before concluding his speech, Big Zoo said: “We did this for the working class people, people who come from nothing.”
Placing his hand around his mother who joined him on stage, he joked: “My mother is a young lady, I know you guys are looking at her, here are some old men. If you have money If so, we can start the convo.”
Big Zoo later expressed his disbelief after receiving the two prizes, saying: “It means a lot, man where we came from this stuff is so rare. We grew up in a small estate together, someone Wouldn’t have thought we’ve reached where we are and won a BAFTA.
“I don’t know if it’s just crazy. Like I said, we never expected it so I don’t even know what to say.”
He also revealed his dream guests for the show, which recently finished filming its third series for Dave.
“I want Jurgen Klopp and I want Jay Cole,” he said.
