Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro will testify before the Federal Police (PF) this Tuesday as part of an investigation into alleged fraud in anti-Covid vaccination cards.
Bolsonaro, his daughter Laura and several assistants may have benefited from the fraud.
Those screened are suspected of providing false information to the Public Ministry system to issue vaccination certificates to travel to the United States between November 2021 and December 2022.
The former President traveled to Florida on December 30, 2022, with his family and close team.
Federal police are required to determine whether the former president was aware of the plan and if he ordered access to the health system ministry.
The far-right politician’s residence in Brasilia was raided by police on 3 May. He was called to testify the same day.
In that operation, Bolsonaro’s former aide, Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid Barbosa, and two members of his security, Max Guilherme and Sergio Cordeiro, were arrested.
On the day of the raid, the former president declared that he had never been vaccinated.
“I didn’t get the vaccine. They never asked me for the vaccination card [para entrar a Estados Unidos], No rigging has been done from my side.
The defense’s argument is that Bolsonaro’s position on the issue is known and that any attempt to enter a foreign country with a vaccination card would have raised questions.
This is the third time since his return from the US that the politician has testified before the federal police.
Bolsonaro was questioned about the case of three packages of jewelry that were given to him and his wife Michelle by the Saudi monarchy during their tenure.
He also testified for allegedly inciting his supporters to violently attack the headquarters of the Three Powers in Brasilia.
