Alec John Such, bassist and founding member of iconic rock band Bon Jovi, has died. He was 70 years old.
The Hay Group on Sunday announced the death of the New Jersey band’s bassist from 1983 to 1994. No details were immediately available on when and how such a death occurred. Singer-songwriter Jon Bon Jovi’s publicist did not immediately respond to messages.
“He was an original,” Bon Jovi wrote in a post on Twitter. As a founding member of Bon Jovi, Alec was integral to the formation of the band.
Bon Jovi is credited with bringing the band together, noting that he was a childhood friend of drummer Tico Torres and brought guitarist and songwriter Richie Sambora to watch the band perform. He played with Sambora in a band called Aisa Message.
Born in New York, The Yonkers was a veteran in New Jersey’s thriving music scene who helped give birth to Bon Jovi. As manager of the Hunka Bunca Ballroom in Sayreville, New Jersey, Aise booked Jon Bon Jovi and The Wild Ones before the singer-songwriter joined the band. He played with Bon Jovi during the group’s heyday in the 1980s.
The band left in 1994, when he was replaced by bassist Hugh McDonald. He later rejoined the band to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.
“When Jon Bon Jovi called me up and asked me to be in his band several years ago, I soon realized how serious he was and had a vision he wanted to bring to us,” Hall of Fame asked to join. “And I’m very happy to be a part of that vision.”
