Boris Johnson calls for slashing 91,000 jobs to tackle life crisis

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson wants to eliminate 91,000 jobs in the civil service industry in a desperate bid to ease the cost of living crisis.

Johnson told his cabinet on Thursday he wanted to reduce the government’s workforce by a fifth, saving the latter $4.2 billion.

“We have to cut government costs to reduce the cost of living,” Johnson told the Daily Mail.

The prime minister’s popularity recently plummeted to new lows as a result of the cost of living crisis, with the consumer price index rising to 8.7 percent in 2022 – nearly double the 4.4 percent peak projected in October 2021. Government records show.

The Labor Party condemned the move, telling The Post, “The cabinet said they would focus on the cost of living crisis facing families across the country.”

“Instead of implementing the emergency budget, they have chosen to once again disappoint the working people through pointless rhetoric and lack of action,” the party’s spokesperson said.

Mark Cervotka, general secretary of the Public and Commercial Services Union, told the Post that Johnson’s move was “not about efficiency.”

“It’s about the prime minister trying to create a smokescreen to avoid his utter collapse of the government,” Sarvotka told The Post. “They have chosen to cause our cost of living crisis and are desperate to point the blame somewhere – and they have chosen to point the finger at the hard-working PCS members who kept the country running during the pandemic. “

“Our members will not be scapegoats for a failed government,” said Sarvotka.

A government spokesperson defended the move, telling The Post, “The PM and ministers are clear that the civil service does an excellent job for the public and progresses on the priorities of the government.

“But when people and businesses across the country are faced with rising costs, the public rightly expects their government to lead by example and run as efficiently as possible.”

Recent UK Council elections proved how little the British people have in their leader, as Johnson’s Conservative Party posted worse results than in previous years after losing nearly 500 seats earlier this month .

A government spokesperson confirmed that the prime minister wants the civil service to return to the 2016 employment numbers in the coming years.

Since then, the number of civil services has reportedly increased to 475,000 full-time equivalent jobs, BBC News reports. Johnson now hopes to reduce that number to about 384,000.

Johnson suggested that the billions saved could be used for tax cuts, telling the Daily Mail, “Every pound is pre-emptive money from the government taxpayer that they can spend on their lives, on their priorities. “

The Conservative Party declined to comment.
