The Brainerd area has been voted the best ice fishing destination in the United States by the digital fishing trip booking platform.
In a press release Thursday, FishingBooker named Brainerd one of the “top eight ice fishing destinations” in the country. Lake Khabib in Maryland was second, and Lake Devils in North Dakota was third.
Ranked by Brainerd as the best ice fishing destination in the US, FishingBooker said it was only a matter of time before the community climbed to the top of the list.
“More than 460 lakes within 25 miles of the city make it ideal for fishing enthusiasts,” said FishingBooker of Brainerd. “Fishing is great any day of the year, and it doesn’t change even in winter.
“Whether you are going ice fishing on Lake Round, trying your luck on Lake Hubert or taking part in activities on Lake Gall, you’ve come to the right place. The waters around Brainerd are home to blue gills, pike-perch, largemouth bass, yellow perch, northern pike and many others. “
In its ranking, FishingBooker named Devil’s Lake perch, walleye, pike and white perch, and occasional crappie fishing as fun for winter anglers.
“As the world’s ‘perch capital’, Lake Devils also made it to the list of the best ice fishing spots in the US last year, and for good reason,” said FishingBooker. “This is the largest natural body of water in North Dakota, so there are many fishing spots along the coastline and on the ice.”

Last year, FishingBooker named Lake Devils the best ice fishing destination in the United States, followed by Lake Superior Red in Minnesota, which did not make this year’s rankings.
