The British government announced yesterday extra new leave (bank holiday) that will honor Coronation of King Carlos III. New bank holiday will be next day Monday 8th May 2023, Just two days after the monarch’s coronation at Westminster Abbey, which will take place on 6 May.
New British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunakdeclared that (as happened with) Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953) will be an opportunity for families and communities to celebrate this event together. And he added: “The coronation of a new emperor is a unique moment for our country.”
This measure has been announced after Conservative MP Ask the British government to move the bank holiday in early May (May 1) to the coronation weekend, or declare an additional day off.
A new holiday to honor Carlos III
In response, Sunak announced the move as follows: “In recognition of this historic occasion, I am pleased to announce an additional public holiday for the whole of the UK next year.” In which he said: “I hope that people all over the country will come together to celebrate and pay tribute to King Carlos III by attending local and national events in his honor.”
