CalFresh beneficiaries in California will soon receive their matching payments this October. This program, known nationally as SNAP, is important to millions of families in the United States. Since last October 1, it has been determined that the maximum allowance for a household where one person lives is $291.00 USD. Meanwhile, if two people live in the house, the assistance will be $536.00 USD. If the property is occupied by three people, then the amount will be $766.00 USD.
The monthly fee increases depending on the number of members living in the house. CalFresh reminds that $219.00 USD will be added for each additional person after the eighth tenant.
Millionaire program in 2022
During the year 2022, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, SNAP, distributed a million-dollar amount to its beneficiaries. The figure rose to $114 billion dollars nationwide. Official SNAP data shows that the project serves nearly 41 million people every month.
Last May, California had more than 5.2 million people who benefited from the aforementioned program. As noted, the USDA assumes the full value of benefits, as well as 50% of SNAP’s operating costs. Meanwhile, California and other states are responsible for funding the rest.
If you are a SNAP beneficiary, you should know that you can use your finances to purchase any type of food intended for human consumption. Exceptions are hot prepared meals or lunches.
Non-food items such as soap, toilet paper or shampoo are not eligible. Alcoholic beverages, tobacco, vitamins, medications and pet food are also excluded.
Meanwhile, CalFresh benefits can be used to buy seeds and plants for home gardens to produce food.
