Cangrejeros operator sues Puerto Rican league

NEW YORK ( Associated Press) — The former operator of Cangrejeros de Santuras has filed an antitrust lawsuit against the Puerto Rico Winter League, alleging that they teamed up with San Juan Mayor Miguel Romero to kick them out of the franchise.

Cangrejeros investor and operator Tom Exxon received a two-year suspension and a $5,000 fine from the Puerto Rican league in March after criticizing the poor conditions at its headquarters, Hiram Bithorne Stadium, and threatening to move it to Humacao.

Exxon’s lawsuit, filed Monday before a federal court in Puerto Rico, demands that control of the franchise be returned to the Exxon companies and tripled from the Puerto Rico Professional Baseball League, operators of other teams, and Impulse Sports Entertainment Corporation. Damage, which took control of the crabs after removing the exon.

“I filed this lawsuit out of my passion for Puerto Rican baseball and the desire to return the Cangrejeros franchise and all Puerto Rican baseball to its former glory, for the benefit of players, fans and the entire community,” Exxon said. This is a statement. “No sports business is above the law.”

Exxon said it offered to invest $2 million to renovate Hiram Bithorne, but Ligue and Romero declined.

Romero introduced Impulse Sports and Puerto Rican rapper Daddy Yankee as operators of Cangrejeros at a press conference this month, saying the team would stay at Hiram Bithorn and that stadium conditions would improve.

Cangrejeros has many baseball legends like Roberto Clemente, Willie Mays, Orlando Cepeda, Frank Robinson, Reggie Jackson, Robin Yount and Satchel Paige.

The league did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
