Representatives of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) traveled to Montreal, Canada to attend the XV Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15).
The event, which will take place from December 7 to 19, will be held under the chairmanship of China and aims to agree on a new global framework for biodiversity post-2020 and ensure that by 2050, sustainable living in harmony with nature is achieved. Complete shared vision.
COP15 will also see the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) Protocol which addresses the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from the use of biological diversity, safe transport, handling of organisms and labelling.
During the past six months, the CARICOM Secretariat promoted the urgency of action at the highest level and worked with Caribbean Biodiversity Focal Points and other partners to contribute to the dialogue.
The Block’s Assistant General Secretary, Joseph Cox reiterated the importance of this conference while addressing the delegates during the field preparation process.
