Chicago DA Kim Foxx Ripped As Soft On Crime After Mall Shooting

A Republican county commissioner reprimanded Cook County State Attorney Kim Foxx for being soft on the crime after a mall shooting in her community injured four people and sent holiday shoppers running to safety.

“Dupage County has always been a county that prides itself on saying that safety is a top priority,” Commissioner Peter DiCianian said Chicago’s WGN-TV. “And a lot of our violent crime is coming from the East” – alluding to Cook County, which consisted largely of crime-ridden Chicago.

Two gunmen opened fire at each other at Oakbrook Center in the DuPage suburb of Oak Brook, about 15 miles west of downtown Chicago, at around 5:45 p.m. Thursday.

One suspect, who was not immediately identified, was injured and taken into custody while police were searching for another shooter, reports the Chicago Tribune. Witnesses told police that they heard 15 rounds of firing.

Oak Brook Police Chief James Kruger said three women who were expected to survive were also shot at the outdoor mall.

“we have a [Cook County] The state attorney who often doesn’t prosecute a crime as he should,” Disiani said of Foxx. “I can tell you that these criminals are speaking on behalf of our state attorney. [in DuPage County], will be fully prosecuted. And the message we need to send is that we do not tolerate this type of crime in our county.”

DiCianni said his county’s response to the incident involved four different SWAT teams.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Foxx, a Democrat who has served as Cook County’s state attorney since 2016, has come under fire during Chicago’s violent crime surge, which has included more than 1,500 murders in the past two years. Huh. His profile took a major national hit after his mishandling of the case against actor Jussie Smollett, who was indicted this month on a hate-crime count.

A special prosecutor’s report released last week found misconduct by Foxx’s office in its handling of the case.
