Although Sofia’s restaurant website promotes its family-friendly style, children are not welcome at this establishment, QUB Radio has found.
The reservation platform for Sofia Restaurant, which has branches in Rosemere and DIX30, was full for tonight reservations for families of two adults and two children, but tables were available for four adults at the same time.
To shed light on this situation, the author of these lines spoke to an employee of the Montreal North Shore branch. When made aware of the situation, the employee recommended that we do not indicate that we had minors with us and that the space was too limited for this client.
“During the week, it’s quieter, but it’s not recommended for kids on the weekends. It’s not a place we come to with kids.”

When asked if it’s because kids are too much of a nuisance, the employee simply reiterated that “spaces for kids are limited.”
Called to react to the situation, Susan Gagnon, wife of renowned chef Daniel Vezina, mentioned in a telephone interview that she had never seen this type of situation.
“There are 4,5,6 year olds in our restaurant. Young people have amazing taste and will eat raw fish, ”explained Wally, who worked with her husband for several years at the gourmet restaurant in Quebec City, Laurie Raphael, which was most recently taken over by their children.
The latter said that the restaurant would be in a bad position to refuse children, as the restaurant was named in his honor.
For her part, Laurie Raphael’s co-owner, Laurie Vezina testified that everyone is accepted at the restaurant. “Of course the experience with children can be different and you should be aware of that. Children are welcome at all times, he said. ,
For her part, retired Judge Nicole Gibault wonders whether serious reasons have been given to explain the decision.
“It’s a pizzeria, it’s not a bar with gambling machines. Sounds like an issue of discrimination to me. A complaint can be made to the Human Rights Tribunal at that point. In my opinion, you can’t give many reasons about a pizzeria. I don’t understand”, she noted on Benoit Dutrizac’s microphone.
