Chris Hemsworth did it “out of boredom”.
The 38-year-old actor – who is married to Elsa Pataky and has 10-year-old daughter Bharat, and twin sons Sasha and Tristan, eight – found himself bored in the lockdown and rushed to the sets of Thor: Love. Thunder was “bigger” than he ever was after overtraining.
He said: “It came out of boredom. Sitting in the COVID lockdown was like a prison. It was train, eat, train, eat. and nothing to do. Then I got ready for a bigger film than ever before.”
However, the Hollywood star – who first returned in the title role in a Marvel Studios film a decade after starring as God of Thunder – joked that his male friends were impressed by his new physique, his wife thought. Was that it was “too much”.
He told USA Today: “My wife was like, ‘Blah, this is too much!’ I have a lot of male friends who say ‘Yeah!’ But a lot of female friends and family are like, ‘Yuck!'”
Chris then stated that he was “done” for movie roles and would ask for a bodysuit to be “terrible” the next time he combined with long intense training sessions on set.
He said: “It was one thing to train and eat so much and then sleep all day. Doing this and then having a scheduled 12-hour day was something different. it was horrible. I will not do it again. They might give me a fancy muscle-y outfit next time. I’ve done!”
