New technologies are very useful in emergency cases. But they can also unnecessarily mobilize health and security resources that, apart from their cost, may be needed elsewhere at the same time. This is exactly what happened this Thursday, at 12 noon, on the forest path near the town of Burgos in Contreras.
According to the Burgos Fire Department, this morning the 112 operations room alerted the accident on the street. The alert came from an area without coverage because one of the victims was a user of Apple’s SOS Service, which in the event of an accident directly sends coordinates and information to the switchboard of the emergency services.
Without the possibility of obtaining more information due to the loss of mobile coverage, firefighters went to the scene while the entire province was on alert due to the Ciarán storm, with more than 70 incidents reported in 112. Likewise, they mobilized the Civil Guard. , Sacyl and volunteer firefighters from Salas de los Infantes.
Upon arrival, firefighters, Civil Guard and health personnel found “an overturned carriage and the uninjured occupants outside the vehicle.” After what happened, the Burgos Fire Department appealed to the “responsibility of users” in the face of this type of incident, canceling the alarm “if such resources are not needed.”
It should also be taken into account that it took the firefighters two hours to arrive due to bad weather and the location of the runway. That is, they have six small troops for four hours if their presence is needed in several places at the same time.
