The alleged harassment of Los Angeles County children by a masked adversary is being investigated by deputies.
Although the Crescent Valley Sheriff’s Department released a statement on Monday admitting that it is “aware” of one incident and will be investigating, a group of parents arrived at the department that evening to call for stronger action regarding the embarrassing encounters that, they said happened. have been going on for several weeks.
The video circulating on social media, including on the Reddit Public Freakout forum, was reportedly recorded on Thursday by a parent outside a mall in La Crescente. A man in a T-shirt that says “Your mask makes you stupid” yells about those who wear masks, insults viewers, uses obscene words and says that masks are child abuse. Among those in the parking lot are five boys who appear to be of middle school age.
A sheriff’s spokesman told Los Angeles television station KTLA that deputies answered a call from the site in which the man reported that the anti-masker was shoving children during his tirade.
After the incident went public, more video surfaced showing a man yelling at students outside schools in the La Crescenta area, with parents telling CBSLA that clashes have been going on for at least a month.
A parent who showed up Monday night at the Crescenta Valley station told CBSLA that the deputy who answered the mall said there was no apparent crime and then began reprimanding the children and “lecturing them about free speech.”
A sheriff’s spokesman told CBSLA on Monday that the man in the video had been identified and that Glendale and Glendale police officers were investigating the incidents.
